Two Times the "FUN"

Remember back in July when my cat went missing?
When I paid $95 to get her out of the animal shelter...
Then paid $70 at the vet when she was so sick and not eating...

She had been acting strange since she got home from the shelter.
She hid in the tub and under Aspen's dresser.
She wouldn't come downstairs, where she usually LOVED to hang out and hide.
She wouldn't use her litter box.
She slept with Aspen and not on my head, which was uncommon.
We fully expected her to not make it through the night after bringing her home from the vet, but she recovered and grew stronger.
She kept attempting to sneak out of the house.

One night we are lying on bed and there she was... outside our bedroom window, begging to get in.
I let her in.

Fast forward two days.
We are sitting downstairs with the cat on our lap, when Aspen comes down and says "The cat is upstairs".
Yeah... we figured it was our all black cat, Mazda, who lives outside.
Aspen insisted it was the new cat, so I made her bring it down.
Yeah...
we saved a cat...
NOT our cat.
$170.
They look EXACTLY EXACTLY the same, except for one little piece of white on the our original cat's nose.
Now we have twin cats, the latter appropriately named.
Mica (the original) and POSER, the impostor cat.
Poser... with the black nose.
Mica... with a piece of white on her nose.
This is why Aspen loves the new cat.

Mica... found

Hayden is more of a dog dude than he is a cat lover.  So I had to be sneaky in acquiring this lovely feline about 4 years ago.  I had a student that brought a kitty to school in the hopes that I would adopt it.  It was so cute, and I knew I'd have an uphill battle getting Hayden to be willing to take her on.

Did you know if you supposedly find a cat hiding in the garage, there is no return to sender possible  :)  So Mica stayed (named after one of my students)... finally becoming more comfortable with us that she was able to leave the hiding spot in the basement and sleep on my feet each night and sit on Hayd's lap on the couch.  Even so comfortable that she was able to sneak out of the house once in awhile for a few hours.

The other night, a few hours turned into a few days... which turned into picking her up from the animal shelter.  We debated on not claiming her when the tab was $95 for her release.  She looked so afraid.  We brought her home, she was shedding like crazy and irritable and afraid.  Aspen, however, was elated to have her back.  She has been dragging her around the house since her return.  Mica has hardly left my bed.  We are glad to have her back.

She is not leaving the house.

June 10th: An animal

Toby is so big he is sometimes mistaken for a small horse... mostly by Aspen, who likes to ride him.
He is getting old, has arthritis and more gray hair everyday.
He has a red KONG toy that is his kryptonite.  He ran through a bonfire to get it once... not sure if that means he has a KONG addiction, or if it says something about his intelligence... or both.
We got him as a middle aged skinny dog two years ago, and he has put on a good 40 pounds since then.

Not my doing

We have a new cat. well... a kitty. An non-litter-box trained kitty who whines and hisses at the other cat we already have.

WHY? Why do we have ANOTHER one, even though it is against all common sense? Look at this face... this is what her dad saw when we dropped the boys off, after she had found the kittens hiding under the tree outside. That is all it took. Hayden caved and let her pick a cat to take home.

The first 5 minutes in the car she was grinning from ear to ear saying "kitty go home? kitty go home?"

She was totally excited.
At 2:10 this morning, when I had to clean up a mess... I was NOT.

dog

I had a big black lab follow me home from a run three weeks ago.  After a week of babysitting him, we found his owners on ksl classifieds, and they were VERY excited to see each other again.  We were sad to see him go.  Aspen loved lying on the floor and cuddling with him.  Wade started calling him HIS dog and was trying to teach him tricks on the same day the owners came to pick him up.

SO... Monday is Wade's birthday... and look who we found for Wade.

TOBY!  He doesn't lay still enough for Aspen to cuddle with him yet, but he plays a great game of fetch, and Wade can officially call him HIS DOG
